Rose Wine

In the austere environment of a convent cell, a few days before the confirmation of her nun vows and a few days before turning 18 years old, Joaquina do Espirito Santo Xavier finds out that she is the daughter of Tiradentes, hero of the Insurgency of Minas Gerais. The year was 1804. She had decided to change her fate. In Joaquina’s emotion itinerary director, producer and writer Elza Cataldo conducts this dramatic and delicate story, in between the mystery that the baroque culture had at the time.

To sum up, this is the narrative of the film “Rose Wine”, portraying a forgotten feminine universe in a time marked by rebellion and idealism. The effort that took to the accomplishment of this motion picture, which doesn’t portraits fiction and also not History, was intense. The historians Marcio Jardim and Cristina D’Avila participated with a careful research for the creation of the script that also worked as an esthetic conception of the movie.

The gestures, the costumes, and the music – everything brings back a dense atmosphere marked by the intensity of the characters. The set locations where from the emblematic Ouro Preto, passing through the lands of Belo Vale and Cipó Mountain, to the City of Parati, Rio de Janeiro, that points to the sea and the immense possibilities to a new life.

Leaded by actress Amanda Vargas that during two years of preparation, searched for the exact tone to give life to Joaquina “Rose Wine” is signed by Luis Abramo as director of Photography, who recreates the clear-dark shades as the baroque is known to be. Art director Nelio Ribeiro dedicated his time to study the colors that represented the time of Tiradentes. The costumes designed by Sayonara Lopes uses the references of Mestre Athayde and illustrator Carlos Julião.

The soundtrack, released as a CD, Caxi Rajão wrote many songs for this movie as well as Lobo Mesquita with great influence of the sacred catholic music. The mastery of Rajão is the final touch for the frame of theis beautiful plot, selected for the official exhibit and for other ten movie festivals on Brazil and oversees, awarded for the direction, wardrobe, set, and sound.
