Laboratório Cineport de Roteiros

Persona Films is part of the coordination of the Cineport Laboratory of Screen Plays in 2007 and an opportunity for screen writers that wish to better themselves and their work by developing new projects. Conceived in the midst of the Festival of Movies in the Portuguese Language, accomplished alternately between Brazilian cities and Africa and Portugal under the direction of Monica Botelho, the laboratory represents an innovative experience that searches to provide for the professionals in the audiovisual area instruments for their artistic and technical evolvement.

The Cineport Laboratory of Screen Plays was born in hopes to point out new and talented screen writers, and also to strength the creative path for those who intend to tell stories as a movie. That way, before the movies actually get to the screen, we will be transported to the imagination of those that share the Portuguese legacy as Brazilians.

The participants of the project chosen in a selection opened to everyone with interest and residing in Minas Gerais, work developing screen plays based in books of Portuguese writing authors based on the selection of Lingua Geral Publisher. They also have the possibility to publish their final work by the Publisher Lingua Geral, the screen plays can also be negotiated for shootings with production companies.

Stages

The first stage of the laboratory happened between 4 and 13 of May in 2007 - during the accomplishment of the Cineport Festival in Joao Pessoa. The screen writers had access to a complete structure including housing, food and transportation. Highly esteemed specialist Newton Canitto conducted the Creative Screen Plays Workshop.

The participants could also keep in touch with writers from the chosen works to be adapted to screen plays to discuss and analyze the films presented in the festival. From that point on, the writers are giving sequence to the development of the texts in each of their work places counting with the guidance of Newton Canitto.

The third and last stage of the project in 2007 happened in November 1° from 4, in the Ouro Preto Language Forum. The screen plays that had participated in the laboratory were included to be analyzed on their final format by consultants Newton Canitto and Marçal Aquino. The texts were presented in an opened session to movie producers and to the public. The audience watched the screen plays reading by specially invited actors.

Innovation Format

Its important to point out that the format of Cineport Laboratory of Screen Plays presents news that should be incorporated in new editions anticipated by the organizers of the festival: “We want to keep the standard of creativity that we are having on this first experience”, states director Elza Cataldo, responsible for the conception of the proposition along with Monica Botelho that counts with the sponsorship of Ormeo Junqueira Botelho Cultural Foundation.

The evolution experimented by the Brazilian Cinema in the last years it more evident the recurrent diagnosis that the screenplay is a weak link of our cinematography. With no opportunity to develop the activity in courses more accessible and with more depth, the screen players that work in the national industry end up having only their talent and their self-taught effort in the production. In Minas Gerais, the picture of instability is even more unsettling.

At the cinematographic work the writer uses the language as the first foundation to work as an instrument of creation. Written in code, the screen play is the key to a project for a movie, nuclear tool in the producing project, inspirational source for the director and solid ground for the actors for the construction of the characters. The chance to exchange experiences with other writers and screen play writers in the Portuguese language in the environment of the Cineport Laboratory of Screen Plays certainly means valuable learning in search of greater ability in the cinematographic narrative.
